I am current using a Norh ACA2B preamp with a 20 watt Canadian built tube amp to drive my La Scalas. I am happy with the sound but the Norh does not have a remote which can at times be annoying. Obviously I care about sound but I don't want to spend a fortune. I came across a couple of Jolida models. Both are passive preamps, one the JD50a, and the other the JD-5T.
