oscilliscope question

Both of my Tektronics scopes have a 'Callibrator' signal bar on the front panel. Connect a probe to the bar and you get a 400 mv square wave at the frequency of half of 110 v line frequency, about 30 Hz. This is your basic functionality test. Check, yours might have a similar output.

How about make and model, and a photo or two?

picked them up for 30$ for the pair. figured I could sell the HP and make a little. keep the small tektronics around for stereo repair.

Didnt get any manuals. and only one probe. the t922 seems to be wroking fine. I get a straight line when I power it on. and most of the controls change the line in some way when adjusted. there is a small point on chassis that says "cal" and a ground spot near the bottom. hate to start probing things without more knowledge

Check this out:

It's a 2 part tutorial on basic oscilloscope use which will give you some familiarity with its functions. Do not attempt to try it with any kind of high voltage circuitry until you are very certain about how to use it properly and safely! You can also find literally dozens of articles on oscilloscope use by typing "how to use oscilloscope" into your favorite search engine.
