RSW-12 not working

Hi all. Glad to have found this forum. As a high school graduation gift, my folks simply asked what I'd like. I knew the question was coming a year or so before the day actually arrived, so I did my math and had an answer all prepared for them. I asked for and received Adcom components (tuner,cd player, amplifiers) and Klipsch speakers front and rear. I pushed each front speaker (KG 5.5) with it's own GFA-555 amplifier and shared the rear speakers (KG 2.5's) with another GFA-555. All of the equipment was purchased brand new from a local store here in town. Why am I telling you this? Because it was 20 years ago and not a single day has gone by that I haven't listened to those exact same speakers which are now in my living room and still used daily. So when it came time to get a subwoofer, the answer as to which one was easy. I saved my money and bought a brand new RSW-12. The sub didn't last 4 months. $1300 and the thing wont even light up. After finding out that Klipsch wouldn't honor the warranty (online purchase) I put it in the closet for a few years and made other arangements for the low frequencies.

My reason for this post: Klipsch make wonderful equipment. My front towers, 2 pr rear and center have thousands and thousands of hours of heavy use and I've not even burned a single coil. The things are bulletproof. So why when it comes to subwoofers do Klipsch have so many problems? I have read numerous posts about their sub amp failures. I absolutely hate to say this here, but the two Sunfire True Signature's (one 10" and one 8") that I replaced the one in question with have had no problems whatsoever. My set up is simple and as follows. Harmon Kardon AVR 335, CinePro 3K6, Adcom GFA-555. The CinePro and Adcom supply all of my front, center, rear and surround speakers. The subs are LFE out from the receiver as was the sub in question at the time (2004 model) that this happened. The sub just all of a sudden didn't power up. I use the auto on function and send the signal thru the LFE.

I don't expect anything out of this rather just some insight if any of you guys or gals might be able to send your opinions my way. I guess I was just a bit dissapointed after spending that kind of money and getting literally nothing in return when I know that the Klipsch company are capable of so much more. Thank you for any advice...

First, welcome to the forum! I'm sorry to hear about the problem you have with your RSW and I'm sure others will chime in that know a lot more than I do. I do own 2 RSW 15's that I purchased used and have never had a problem with either of them. So your sub worked fine and then you went to turn it on and nothing? Is this the newest version with the controls on the top or the older one with the controls on the rear at the amp? I wouldn't think that the amp just blew out when you tried to turn it on and that your problem lies somewhere else with a switch, fuse, internal connection.........................

Have you removed the amp yet? At this point it's not like you're going to hurt anything but maybe you can take it out and post some pictures tell us exactly what happened and let's see if we can get you back up and running.

Thank you Pete for the reply. It is the model without the digital control. I realize that showing no power would have nothing to do with the sub but I checked the coil anyway. It measured at just over 4 ohms. 4.4 to be exact. I will pull the guts and snap a few pics. Again, thank you for your help...
