biggraypony
Hi. I'm new to the forum and new to Klipsch Pro (have had home audio speakers for several years). I just bought a couple of used Industrial La Scalas and have a few questions. 1) How do I tell the difference in K-33 and K-43? Is it "always" printed on the magnet? 2) One of the units has nice booming bass; the other is rather washed out. I have discovered the cone in the latter one is stuck. I assume this implies a recone job is needed. Can anyone recommend recone kits for the K-33 or K-43 (I am certain it is one or the other, since it does have the Klipsch logo printed on the magnet. Thanks, anyone, for your help. I am sure I will have more questions later. Hopefully over time I can be a resource instead of a user. djk
A K43 has a big magnet, about 9" in diameter, the K33 is smaller, maybe 7"(it could also be square). "I assume this implies a recone job is needed." Cut out the cone and remove it. Is the magnet gap pinched to one side, or is the coil burnt black? If the coil is burnt, recone. If the magnet is shifted, replace. http://www.google.com/imgres?q=Klipsch+K43&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1212&bih=789&tbm=isch&tbnid=xVqeskdAhJCZOM:&imgrefurl=http://legacysoundservice.com/catalog1/product_reviews.php%3Fname%3DKlipsch%2520K43-E%2520-%2520LSS%2520Recone%2520Kit%2520for%252015%2522%2520Woofer%2520-%25204%2520Ohm%26products_id%3D1575%26osCsid%3Droobk4bc5nf0pijo9a7spikgo3&docid=-T9e-7JVf0Rr1M&itg=1&imgurl=http://legacysoundservice.com/catalog1/images/klipsch-K48K%252520(12).JPG&w=401&h=336&ei=KrqtTqDMHoSosQLAvLHvDg&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=878&sig=113347876013000459872&page=1&tbnh=135&tbnw=168&start=0&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0&tx=64&ty=
biggraypony
Thanks, djk, I will do that with much dread and trepidation. By the way, any idea what would cause a magnet to shift? I assume from your answer that there is no way to realign one?
biggraypony
Oh, and also, assuming it is a toasted voice coil, can you recommend a source for recone kits for K-43? Is a K-43-E different? Thanks again!
djk
"By the way, any idea what would cause a magnet to shift?" Being dropped. "I assume from your answer that there is no way to realign one?" They can be repaired, at a high cost.
