Need help with a Stephens Tru-Sonic circa 1954

I wouldn't worry about it. Its a protective coating that is supposed to prevent corrosion. But after 5 decades , it looks like there is some surface corrosion beneath the coating.

If it were me, I would carefully take it out, carefully tape it up making sure only having the areas with corrosion showing, and then carefully wirebrushing the corrosion to get as smooth a surface as possible. Then carefully spray paint the area with as close a match of the original color as possible. Then carefully remove the tape when dry and then very carefully installing the speaker back into the cabinet. I have to mention you have to do this carefully.

I treat everything carefully that was produced in 1954 - including my two 1954 Packards and also....................................myself.
