Serge_S
Hi, KPT-684(and similar pro offerings) is a bass-reflex sub withlarge pro motors and lightweight cones that give it sensitivity of 105db. This puts KPT-684 in thehorns territory. Would these characteristics cure any direct radiator shortcomings(such as muddy bass) in comparison to horns. What would be the advantage of using horn bins from Jubilee, K-Horn, orother bass horn designs vs 2 KPT-684 units. Thanks,Serge
Guest " "
the larger pro sub woofers are intended to be used with the larger pro horn solutions. The larger pro sub woofers can cover the entire LFE range whereas the larger pro horns can not.
psg
The larger pro sub woofers can cover the entire LFE range whereas the larger pro horns can not. The numbers don't agree. The KPT-684 is rated down to 34 Hz, same as a Khorn. The KPT-435 is rated down to 45 Hz, same as the Jubilee. You would still need an LFE subwoofer with either. Serge_S
Thanks psg. In the area where horn bins and KPT-684 overlap, whould KPT be able to compete w/horns in SQ? The lowest frequency is of no concern.
Serge_S
Thanks speakerfritz. I've read that pro sub can go deeper than it's official rating, especially in home setting. What about the SQ for the same frquency range compared to horn bins.
Chris A
In the area where horn bins and KPT-684 overlap, whould KPT be able to compete w/horns in SQ?Ummm, no...they don't. Well, if you are counting FM and AM distortion in your definition of SQ.I personally prefer horn-loaded subs to go with my horn-loaded bass bins. Even tapped horn subs work, as long as they're band-passed to just the "non-overlapping" LF end that you bass bins don't handle.
