you don't want either side of the sub very close to a solid surface, a wall or desk. want the sides of the sub, and the front port (and to a point the rear of the sub, to keep it ventilated,) in an open area, air space around it.

you can put it in a corner, put the back of the sub in the corner with the side woofers pointed at the wall at like i guess a 45* angle. however, every room and every setup is different. it is best to experiment with sub placement. try to use corners, it will generally add 6dB of volume.
