CaptnBob
I don't mean to raise any hackles here, but what is being described above sounds like a multi-cell horn to me - several exponential horns clustered together as in an Altec 1505. These horns had problems at higher frequencies owing to phasing and diffraction effects. A sectoral horn - when looked at from the top - originally had flat sides and a curved front - a "sector" of a circle. I've also seen them called "radial" horns for that reason - the sides are the radius of a circle. PWK said at a seminar I was priviledged to attend that the fins in his horn and in the Altecs were there to add structural integrity and to minimize ringing - anything involved in spraying the sound around was secondary. The horns used by Electro-Voice in their big Sentry systems (the III and IV) don't have the fins at all and are still considered "sectoral" horns. Well, that's my 2 cents worth for the day. Capt'n Bob (Yeah, I know, 2 cents is a high price to pay for that!)
