Soldering speaker spades tutorial?'s

I need a little guidance from the experts. I am soldering 10awg speaker wire into 1/4 inch crimp spades. I just want a nice strong connection..... Should I strip the plastic housing and then proceed or keep it, push the wire through, then crimp and solder the small bit of wire that would come out the other side? These are going into a late 50's tube amp and there is very little room between the 0 and 8 connections. Thanks for any info.......

If using the AMP style crimp connectors with plastic insulator, I strip the wire back (a bit more than is absolutely necessary, insert the wire fully so the wire's insulation is under the plastic insulator, criimp. If excess wire sticks out on the spade lug end, snip off with dykes but leave a little. Smash it flat to the Spade with needlenose pliers and solder that bit. Now you have a solid electrical and mechanical connection.
