philly0116
I have a Denon turntable, not the fanciest by any stretch but its clean and works. I say it works, I have it connected to a Marantz 2265 and if I give it much juice at all there is an awful hum. I have the turntable grounded to the screw right beside the phono inputs just as I should. I'm new to turntables and records, can anyone provide me any insight as to why the hum is happening? Thank you!
LarryC
Wiggle the wires right next to the jacks at both the amp and the TT ends, to see if the hum changes or goes away. The ground wire might be broken inside the jack. Is it on just one side, or both sides?
philly0116
Thanks for the fast response! It comes throughboth channels. I will check the ground wire in the unit and also make sure everything is plugged in good. I guess the possibility exists there is something wrong with the phono in the amp. I just picked my marantz up from Durhams electronics in Little Rock and he cleaned it thouroughly, replaced the lamps and gave it an overall clean bill of health, so the odds of the problem being in the receiver is low.
