Help with power for THX Ultra 2 system

Unless you are in a very large room, running 11 channels will not be a lot different than running a good 7.x. All the different surrounds need space from the mains and from each other to really hear the spatial cues that they reproduce.

My room will be quite large (24x18x12) so I'm thinking 11.2 should increase the soundstage quite nicely.

I love my Emo amps but for the appx. 2600.00 your considering for the XPA's, why not just get the matching 11 channel yammie amp for a few hundred more.

The MX-A5000 is only 150wpc (2 ch driven). I'm thinking with the room size, I should give those speakers some more power.

The B&K would work perfectly! the THX ultra 2 are much more power hungry than the refrence series but do not require a 300-400 watt amp by any means. I like your thinking so far i.e. that similar to my setup and I am an extraordinarily happy THX ultra 2 owner. I wouldn’t swap my system in my room at all. The only change I would make is in the next house I will have a room 2 times as large with 3 rows of tiered seats a 150” screen acoustically transparent on a false wall and I will be going pro cinema next but for the next 7-8 years I plan to stay in this house since it is new. Only 1.5 years old. The day I sell my THX setup will be a sad lonely day
