Pop through external speakers when tv turns on?

Love my new tv. Hate the tiny speakers on the back, so I took my unused Promedia 2.1 and connected them to my tv via the analog rca outputs with an rca to 3.5mm adapter. Great sound, but when I turn off the the tv, there is a faint, tolerable pop. When I turn the tv back on there is a LOUD, intolerable pop. What might cause this? I pulled the Bose 321 from my bedroom and connected it and get the same pop, so I know its in the tv and not the Promedia 2.1's. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
