Yea, I have seen all the sony units and the major problem with them is the remote. The unit has this 2-way remote that requires that remote to use some of the cd-players functionality. How much, I cannot seem to find out. It is a problem on two levels,

#1- I have been a Pronto user for years, and have designed all my own custom configurations. I now have a ProntoPro, and am not willing to use another remote.

#2: this unit will go in a fully enclosed cabinet (hence the need for on screen display) so there will be no way for the changer to communicate back with the remote.

So anybody have any non-sony ideas? I am considering just buying a DVD changer and using for cds, but I'd rather have something that is tailored to cd use.

the purpose of the 2-way remote is to transmit data back to the lcd display on the remote. this feature IS NOT neccessary to operate the remote, although you may want to use this remote, rather than program into the pronto the cd commands(button-for-button).

sony had a 5-disc dvd/cd changer w/on screen, but those have been discontinued.

btw-my dvd changer IS ALSO a cd/SACD changer.

Everyone be advised. Avman's statements are false about the Sony CD Changers. There are numerous funtions that DO NOT work without the 2-way remote. I know- I just bought it.

These functions are not a huge issue to me or I would not have bought it, but you might just want to be sure on all your information. The search functions and some other minor functions don't work properly without the 2-way remote.

no harm, just FYI to whoever may read this thread in the future.

'the search function and some other minor functions don't work w/o the 2-way remote'

so that makes my statement false??cwm23.gif

if you feel that not having the 2-way communication w/the sony cd remote is a great hinderance to its functionality, then get an ir repeater and use that to transmit the ir data to the cd remote. also, the primary interest you seemed to indicate was on-screen display, and that, as well as selecting a disc from that display does work w/o the 2-way communication. avman.

Sorry Avman, I did not mean to make that sound like I was flaming you or anything, which it obviously did.

I just wanted anybody searching the forums later, or looking for info on products now, to be misinformed. I look for info here all the time on products, and I often find myself reading your posts.

I know for a fact that you weren't trying to mislead anyone or anything even close to that. You are by far and above one of the best guys on this BB.

I apologize that it sounded that way. I just wanted people the use universal remotes to be aware of the loss of that function in the unit.

My bad for sounding like I was attacking you. Sometimes text doesn't always come off like you intend.

Thanks

no problem-the ir repeater set will work for 2-way communication w/the remote if you feel the need.

i set up alot of universal remotes (mostly sony rmav2100 which are now rmav3000) and this remote(the one that comes w/the on-screen cd changer) is one whose extraneous functions would be difficult to duplicate, or at least impractical to program(button-for-button) into the universal remote.up,down, left, right, enter, play, pause,ff,rw,skip fwd, back;however should be easy. avman.

I have a sony ES changer (I forget the model number)

and a Pronto remote and they work great together.

I used a program to enter all of my cd titles and artists into the Pronto to make finding one of the 400 discs very easy. look that up at remotecentral.com I haven't picked up the sony remote in over a year now.
