Not sure if it is n the wood or it was something that was applied (or dripped). The actual case is a bit darker than it appears in the picture. By the way, the LaScalas below the case are sold. They sound so great driven by the VAC amp. I will miss them. I have a hard time parting with speakers. I should not listen to them after they sell.
