sunbeam64
Looking for recommendations for i/r controlled dimmer swirch for my H-T low-voltage track lighting.Ceiling mounted transformer, wired into ceiling house feed. Will standard current dimmer work in this application? Do I need a low-voltage compatable unit? Thanks!
dougdrake
Don't have a specific answer for you, but there's lot of info over at www.remotecentral.com (I think the X10 forum might talk about this, since often people are looking for an I/R alternative to X10) and at www.hometheaterforum.com I know Leviton makes an I/R controlled dimmer, but not sure if it handles the type of light you have -- seems like it would if you are able to dim the circuit before you hit the transformer, but I don't know. Malcolm
I think you will need to find something that will work with an inductive load like your step down transformer. Run of the mill triac based dimmers are designed appropriate for this kind of load.
Malcolm
Uh.... Must have hit submit before finishing editing. Run of the mill triac based dimmers are _not_ designed for this kind of load.
