NEWBIE: ss.1 vs ss.5 power rating

You don't mention much about your receiver - assuming that you are using these for surrounds, is your receiver rated for 100 watts to all speakers?? (Rating to surrounds is sometimes less) If so, and if you were to turn up your receiver, you would damage the SS-.5's. The SS-1's would match the power output (100 watts) of the receiver, and thus could handle anything that the receiver put out. So, it's really up to you, and how careful you'd be with the volume.

Armin - IMHO, you have nothing to be concerned about. The 100wpc rating on your receiver is what it is capable of driving, continuously. In day-to-day use, you will probably be using less than 5 watts of power, with peaks that may go into those higher ranges.

The SS-.5 rating of 50 watts continuous will easily handle the continuous output of your receiver, and the 200 watt peak will handle the peaks of your receiver (assuming your receiver has the horsepower to drive really high power peaks CLEANLY -- most of the time speakers fry at loud volumes because the amp gives out and sends "clipped" signals to the speakers causing them to blow - technically called clipping).

More likely YOU'LL have to leave the room to avoid ear damage before the SS-.5 will fry.
