ricguitar Posted December 24, 2002 Share Posted December 24, 2002 I own a pair of HS-3's and heresey's that have given me pleasure for years. However, one of the HS-3's developed a rattling sound when listening to heavy bass. After troubleshooting, here is what I discovered....first, one of the woofers has a bad voice coil causing a buzzing sound at loud heavy bass passages.....second, the cabinet itself is vibrating on the rear of the enclosure sounding like someone is knocking on my front door....I can eliminate this thumping by placing my hand on the back of the cabinet and applying pressure to the middle....how strange...these cabinets are built like a tank...so I thought....Klipsch wants $135.00 for a new woofer and I think I can fix the cabinet myself by adding a wood brace inside....any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated before I go messing things up....
