to add more dynamics...

my fronts are university senior IIs... very old speakers, not very effecient...

i was wondering, if i used my dads NAD amp (40 watts... conservativly rated mind you) and went from the "Pre-Outs" for my fronts on my Maranetz SR4200 to the "Pre In" on the NAD, and took out the bridge, would that give me more power, thusly more headroom, thusly more dynamics? or am i talking outta my headstock again?

You could try that, I use the pre-outs of my marantz sr4200 to feed an older Philips pa1200b power amp (150w/ch rms). I doubt that the nad would actually work better, although it doesn't hurt to experiment. My feeling is that I can take the major load off the receiver, freeing up more reserve juice for the center and rear. Btw, the marantz is rated at 65w/ch. 45 watts wouldn't be that much of a difference - roughly 1.5db.
