Iceman
What are the best recievers for music primarily, with some movies? Are the pioneer elites good recievers? I am working with a budget of around $500-600. Does anyone use a pioneer elite? Any suggestions on any recievers are most appreciated. Bill H.
Ice, For music, go with seperates Cambridge Audio, or Creek. You can buy a tuner, integrated amp for your price range. If you are into HT go with Denon. The 1802 is a good mid priced model that should serve you well. hope this helps........bill
Pathos
Iceman, I currently have a Yamaha RX-v1000 and I am very happy with it. I purchased it a couple years ago for about $1,000.00. Even though my next receiver might not be a Yamaha, I will always try to compare them with the new prospect. But then again, I am a Yamaha receiver fan. I know a lot of people here won't recommend a Yamaha over a Denon, Outlaw, or a HK, but it is all in personal preference. I do need to upgrade to a receiver with front effects and a powered rear center channel...who knows, once I audition other receivers this may be my last Yamaha. Here is an in-depth review of a yamaha receiver in your price range. http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_10_1/yamaha-rx-v630-receiver-1-2003.html
jdm56
Iceman, If music is your primary passion, are you considering a move to SACD and/or DVD-Audio? If you are, you might be well advised to wait a year or so. By then there should be some affordable receivers coming to market with firewire capability, which will allow a digital connection between a hi-rez, multi-channel disc player and the receiver. This will let you use the receiver's dsp for all inputs, including hi-rez audio. And personally, I think the Pioneer's are some of the best values out there. Particularly the 43 & 45 Elites. And that goes especially with horns. They use mos-fet output devices, which are generally considered to be smoother than bi-polars.
