AlexI
Ive got Cornwall model CII BR. Does it meant that its Cornwall II in Birch finish? Birch finish means that its raw wood. Is it correct? Can I apply BLO to it? Thanks.
garymd
Have they already been stained? If so, depending on the finish you can or cannot. If they've been laquered you cannot. More info would be helpful.
AlexI
I'm not sure. I touched the bottom of one speaker with the sand paper and I can't feel any difference between this surface and the surface that I did not touch. Does it meant that I have just a raw wood without any finish? Thanks,
garymd
If it looks like raw unfinished (very light natural colored) wood than it probably has never been finished. You can use BLO if you don't want to put any finish on them. However, if you want to put a finish on them you should do the oiling afterwards or put on a couple coats of polyuerethane instead of oil, whatever your prefernce. If you like the natural look you can certainly just oil them now. It will darken them a little and bring out the grain.
AlexI
One more question. I was trying to fill some chips and dents with plastic wood (I used "natural"). Unfortunately its clor does not much the color of the wood well enough. If I oil the speakers would it make this color difference more pronounced or less? Thanks. garymd
I don't pretend to be an expert. I'd have to see the difference in color. Stain would probably help mask the color difference but oiling may not. I can't give you much more advice than that on finishing. Nothing I ever finish looks as good as when it's professionally done. Maybe someone with more expertise could chime in here.
