RP-3 Manual Needed

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just got my first pair of speakers (RP-3s) since I got out of college. Would've been nice if they came with more documentation than that 1 page booklet.

Anyone out there know what all the ins and outs are to hooking these monsters up? What's the difference between line in and LFE? And what is the difference between Bi-Wire or not?

lg, imo u should get the rp-5 for a few $ more Smile.gif

which receiver/amp are u using for em?

the rps line in are filtered & have a line control like

a crossover. the lfe ins are nonfiltered & best used w/ the sub out on a receiver which is itself filtered (usually at a set 80hz).

so usually the best way to go is to connect the receiver sub outs w/ rca cables to only the lfe ins of the rps, w/ speaker wire connect the receiver front speaker terminals to the high level speaker terminals of the rps & leave on the gold straps (or replace those w/ speaker wire).

doing this is in effect biamping (receiver amp & sub amp). so need for further biwiring.

happy listening!

Ok, so here is the deal. The Klipsch were on sale and I couldn't afford the RP-5s at the time. Now I could get an exchange and pay the difference but the RP-5s aren't on sale anymore and I don't think I'll be getting the 15% off. Small apartment living doesn't lend itself to dual 12 inch subs anyway. Biggrin.gif

So, now I'm in the market for a receiver and I'm feelin' the itch to buy soon. Any advice there...My friend has a sony 945 but I don't want a lot of flash just a good clean receiver that I can use with both HT and Music.

lg, is your friend tomai by chance? Smile.gif

sony 945 is ok unit, but my sony 935 is kinda noisy(Hisss) & not a real high current/amperage unit.

apparently the 945 has an adjustable front/sub cut-off which would be nice.

there's a lot of receiver recommendations on this board like some now under HT & General sections. like u may want to check out denon or marantz units that may fit your budget.

anyway, hope the above helps w/ your hook-up.

Thanks for the advice. I remeber my sales person telling me about the Yamaha and that it had higher current than the sony but I did not understand what that meant.

B12, Yeah TK is my friend...who told you who I was? Also, thanks for the input on the hookup. I'll help when I get that receiver!

lg, tk emailed me & also said a friend had got the rp-3

so i figured that friend b u Biggrin.gif

see if that dealer might let u get the rp-5 for @ most another $400. he makes more commiss so he may go. they don't take much more space than the rp-3 & i was amazed at the improved performance. said at the time it was the best $400 i ever spent (going from 3 to 5s).

if not, the rp-3 still rock so have fun!

LatinaGod,

Is this receiver for HT or just stereo. In any case, try the Denons, I have had Yammies, Onkyo, and others. I find the Denons sound more natural with the Klipsch. Very clean... we like clean.
