  1. Yes I agree with Ray. I add this...ask the sales person to leave you alone and let you play alone. They have a way of playing what sounds GOOD. Not an aray of sounds. 3. Don't worry--they sound great. The only time I hear harshness is at very high levels. No wife will allow high levels! LOL Set all your speakers to small. 6. I saw it, but I haven;t been able to read it yet. How could they give poor reviews of the RF-7. I would love to pop my RF-3s in the rear and place those babies in front. That would be great. Oh yah, how could I forget about the RC-7...I NEED that too. The hell with this college crap. I need to buy, buy ,buy. Wow, I just lost myself there for a second. 7. That's funny. When my dad started talking about a home theatre, my stepmother said, "what do we that for?" Now they have about 50 DVDs and she loves it. My dad and stepmom said a DVD player was a poor investment when I bought my first one. It cost over 500 dollars. Now look, they are so inexpensive for entry level. I saw one at Walmart for $120. I now have a collection of 140 DVDs. Every Tuesday when the new releases are available it grows. I should have about 1000 by the time I'm 30. (I am 21 now) This is my advice to win your wife over. Play her music when you are setting it up. She'll be won over. Its so much fun. My system is on every minute I am home. The speakers on my TV are actualy shut off. All video and sound goes through my reciever. ------------------ Sony Trinitron 27" TV Yamaha RX-V1000 JVC HR-S3800 Super VHS VCR Sony DVP-S530D DVD Player Sony TC-WE425 Tape Sony CDP-CE345 Cd player RF-3 Main Monster m1.4 Biwire Cables RC-3 Center RS-3 Rear (Just upgraded the SS-1)
  8. I just tried it and it seems to sound better. I will turn the volume up tommarow and see if it sounds better. Why is it better to turn all the speakers to small? 12. Yah, I think we sometimes over complicate things here. But that is why it is important to go to an authorized dealer! You have more options. I just bought new PC. Spent almost $2000. 17. Well again, a movie theater requires a ton of money because it is a huge room that can fit hundreds of people. Your home theater is much smaller so you don't need as much. Your question about what to look for.... Compare many models BRING YOUR OWN MUSIC--you know your music and you can compare it that way Listen very closely Do it yourself--don't just let the sales do everything. Spend a lot of time Listen at different levels On more thing. Put the receiver on CD (or whatever). Stop the source and turn the volume up very high. Make sure not to turn on the source. You may hear a lot of noise. Advice--Klipsch speaker are efficient and WILL pick that up. It will become VERY annoying when you are home. For example-- I started with Sony. Sony is known for noisy receivers. After having it in my house for a month, it started to drive me crazy. I returned and have been very happy. Remember not all speakers sound good with all receivers!! Mix and match them too. ------------------ Sony Trinitron 27" TV Yamaha RX-V1000 JVC HR-S3800 Super VHS VCR Sony DVP-S530D DVD Player Sony TC-WE425 Tape Sony CDP-CE345 Cd player RF-3 Main Monster m1.4 Biwire Cables RC-3 Center RS-3 Rear (Just upgraded the SS-1)

  19. You will have BOTH quality and loud sound with the Reference line. However, I am concerned about the prices. They seem to good to be true. Are you getting them from an actual Klipsch dealer? I not sure what the current prices are, but when I got by Rf-3s, they were 899. Absolutely demo them before hand. You don't know what your getting until you hear them. Everyone hears sound differently and have different taste. You may get them and hate them. Then what? DO NOT buy hasty. I wasted a lot of money doing that in the past. I am telling you from experience, purchase from a respectable dealer that will allow you to try (30 day return policy) them in your own home. Keep returning them until you are absolutely sure you found what you want. Another thing to consider: they may sound like crap in your room! Yes I am being harsh, but you are better off spending a little more now and being happy, then buying something you are not happy with and stuck with. Spend time listening. Youll know what you want when you hear it. ------------------ Sony Trinitron 27" TV Yamaha RX-V1000 JVC HR-S3800 Super VHS VCR Sony DVP-S530D DVD Player Sony TC-WE425 Tape Sony CDP-CE345 Cd player RF-3 Main Monster m1.4 Biwire Cables RC-3 Center RS-3 Rear (Just upgraded the SS-1)
  20. Hey what the hell go for the RF-7. They are amazing!!!!!!! 21. I may start a fight here, but like dougdrake said let your ears decide. I will add-you also let your needs decide. There are great benifits to the Bose Accostamas System. They are really good small speakers. SMALL being the key word. The unfornate thing for Bose is you can get small speaker that also sound great (like the Klipsch) for maybe half the price. YOU have to compare them relativly. You can not compare the Bose satalite to the REFERENCE line. Its like comparing a Ford Escort to a Toyota Avalon. I, however, did the try the Bose. They were not for me. I returned them and went for Klipsch. As decibel man said, spend more than you expect. You will be happy in the long run. ------------------ Sony Trinitron 27" TV Yamaha RX-V1000 JVC HR-S3800 Super VHS VCR Sony DVP-S530D DVD Player Sony TC-WE425 Tape Sony CDP-CE345 Cd player RF-3 Main Monster m1.4 Biwire Cables RC-3 Center RS-3 Rear (Just upgraded the SS-1)
  22. Hey guys, I haven't been here for a while. I have some questions. Several months ago I went to Tweeter to test drive the RF-5 & 7. the RF-7 were amazing. When I went home, I began to notice that my system sounded harsh when turned up. It was worse on different cds. I have my trebble turned down. Any suggestion (inexpensive)? Or am I getting ready (my ears at least) to upgrade? Anyone else experience harshness from the older Reference (RF-3, RC-3, RS-3)speakers. Thanks ------------------ Sony Trinitron 27" TV Yamaha RX-V1000 JVC HR-S3800 Super VHS VCR Sony DVP-S530D DVD Player Sony TC-WE425 Tape Sony CDP-CE345 Cd player RF-3 Main Monster m1.4 Biwire Cables RC-3 Center RS-3 Rear (Just upgraded the SS-1)
  23. Here are my theories on your problem. First of all I had the exact model as you as well as the 333. This first problem can simply be a defective unit. This is probably the most logical solution. Sony is known for their inconsistencies in construction of receivers. I had 2 STR 333ES in my home before I had a completely functioning unit. Also, my 444 had problems. At that point I got rid of the Sony and bought my Yamaha. I am amazed at the difference. Back to your issue: When the volume is turned completely down to 0 you should here no sound, no matter what the DSP setting is or source. There is probably something not grounded properly. This could also be a cable problem. Before returning it, disconnect everything, than reconnect one thing at a time testing the functionality of the system. This may pinpoint the problem and you may only have to replace a cable. Even if the above statement is true and changing the cable eliminates the hum/hiss, Sony is still known for noisy receivers. If the unit is not defective, you will probably still experience a hiss. All my Sony units hissed extremely loud when the volume was raised a little bellow 1/3 of maximum without the source (ex. CD player) even turned on!! Some people are not bothered by the hiss, but if it bothers you try another manufacturer. boa, it is not just the DSP. This hiss was there in all settings, even 2-channel. My advice to all is to get rid of their Sony and try another manufacturer. ------------------ Sony Trinitron 27" TV Yamaha RX-V1000 JVC HR-S3800 Super VHS VCR Sony DVP-S530D DVD Player Sony TC-WE425 Tape Sony CDP-CE345 Cd player RF-3 Main Monster m1.4 Biwire Cables RC-3 Center RS-3 Rear (Just upgraded the SS-1)

  25. YOU ARE not upgrading. They offer a 60 day satisfaction guarantee. You are not happy; you want to upgrade. Bring them back and make them get the boxes. They can store them without the box.
