tsengan
Hello all had my 4.1s for a while now, and recently, there's been a fair amount of noise coming from the rear speakers. I've fiddled with the cables to make sure they're okay and not twisted etc. I've also gone through the checklist - the soundcard (Audigy 2) is on the lowest PCI slot away from anything else, the speakers are nowhere near anything that can cause electrical interference (that sort of thing), everything is clean, all unneeded inputs are switched off/muted. It's only the rear speakers. Anything else it could be? Could the wires be subject to corruption? (they run along beside some power wiring) Any ideas are more than welcome. System: Win XP P4 1.5 Intel mobo Audigy 2 (latest drivers) Leadtek ti4200 Thanks
justin_tx_16
On the back of the sound card, switch the cables. Does the problem move to the front speakers?
tsengan
Good point. I hadn't thought of that... Aaaaand...no, it doesn't move to the other speakers... I will try and take a couple of digi pics this weekend and post them so people can see the setup.
tsengan
Here are the three pics I took. One is of the wires running along my wall next to power cables. The next is of the back of the PC and subbie (my nice mess of wires). The last is of the power board where the rear speaker wires run. None of these look like they'd particularly affect the speaker wires... hmmm...I guess if people want to see them they'll have to copy-paste. Sorry...I'm not sure how to get it working on these Boards...

MD1032
Try switching one of your sattelites from the back to the front. This will tell you if it's a satt problem or an amp problem.
tsengan
justin_tx - thanks for putting up the pics. I'll try that with the sat...I didn't think of that. I've also done a bit of recabling to get them away from the power cables and such. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks
pinipig523
let me tell you this. my first set of 4.1s had a hiss (an unnaturally loud hiss in comparison to the other 3 channels) - that seemed to come from the tweeter. i switched the speakers and still - whichever was hooked up to the rear right channel hissed. so one day, i returned it to circuitcity for a new one - and the hiss is gone. so - in the end, it is entirely possible that the hiss is from a noise interference within the sub-amplifier.
