Stovebolt6
I'm thinking about upgrading my HT reciever. It is a Sony STR-895. I'm wondering if a previously owned Denon AVR 5700 is worth looking into. I don't think I will be going to a 7.1 anytime soon my room is not deep enough for it anyway. Will the 5700 decode DTS and DD5.1? Are there other reasons why this may be a poor choice as an upgrade? Thanks, Dan
MrMcGoo
Since you do not want a 7.1 system, the Denon should work for you. Two things that I would look at are price and multi-channel inputs. The 5803 has two sets for both DVD-A and SACD. I suspect that the 5700 only has one set. For price I would look at eBay and Audiogon. Comparisons are also in order. The Pioneer VSX-55TXi can be purchased new for just over $1,000. It has i.link and is 7.1 in case you move or change your mind. Bill
Robert Gervais
I have a 5700 and may be willing to part with it for the right price. I am looking to upgrade to a 5803. I have had mine for 2 years and it is in mint condition. It works flawlessly and handles my Chorus II's, Quartets and KSP S6's fine! Let me know what price range your interested in.
