garymd
I picked up about a dozen Benny Goodman lps the other day (great library score this week). The record store that donated their entire collection wasn't all soul it turned out. There was a whole box of Benny Goodman lps. One I'm about to play is a 1968 recording "The Best Of Benny Goodman" in its original shrink wrap with a sticker that says "Stereo Effect Reprocessed From Monophonic." They do however state that they are the original recordings. Did they just remix these in the studio from the original tapes. Was that a standard procedure for rereleasing these old recordings? Yhis is the first I've seen with that sticker and I have many, many of these old lps.
garymd
Now that I look at some of the others, many say re-recorded to simulate stereo so I guess this was common. My guess is the more valuable ones are the mono recordings.
