kjohnsonhp
Here is my perspective on the sweet spot of HT: Receiver: $1K +/- (Denon 3803 or H/K 8000, etc.) although A $350 used Outlaw 1050 or Denon 1803 is a fine job. The Denon 3803 makes for a nice pre/pro when upgrading to an external higher powered amp. DVD player: $200-$300. $300-400 might bring in Denon 1600 and Phillips 963s. 5 speaker package: $2-3k ie RF7/RC7/RS7 (how much is that? I prefer 2 Cornwalls and 4 Heresys which would be under $2k (~$1600). Sub: $600-$1200 something like the SVS PC+ (Klipsch Reference sub) Display: NEC HT1000 DLP projector at $3500 plus screen (or other new projector like the new Runco, etc.) cables, lighting, seating, window treatment, etc. You can certainly spend a lot more. The Anthem AVM20 or HALO C2 and matching amp at around $4k would be a nice start. Add the Denon 2900 with modifications for over $1k and the new 4-driver sub at around $2k and a Klipschorn/Belle speaker system and you've got a notablly higher budget. Then you could look at THETA amps, Lexicon/Meridian pre/pro, Mark Levinson, etc. to set an even higher budget. Spending $20K on a pair of speakers can easily be done...ie Wilson Watt/Puppy. PhilMays
Good sized room....the question is what is your budget? If members knew that, then they can help.
