  1. thank you both so much, now i am getting somewhere, you have both supplied info i have been trying to get, keep it coming, again thanks
  2. what model blu ray is it? it has nothing to do with cheap as suggested. the technology is new enough that there a few chinks in it, firmware updates are coming in if your is updatable. . it is a sync problem one otr the other does not see each other, simply turn off, either the player, and than back on, if this does not do it than the receiver, it takes a bit of patience with this gen players, but!!!!! it beats the hell out of dvd.
  3. hi everyone, my question is if any of you have any experience with the SONOS system, i am considering the sonos system to handle my digital music, also for all you computer wise folks out there, i also do not trust my comp to handle my every growing library. i am afraid that if i cannot use an external drive i can and will lose 100 gigs of music. i have already lost 35 gigs once, i got a virus and had to do a recovery. i want 1 tera of storage, and i am told the best storage especially for secure, and restorable it to purchase an raid array? i have been trying to get info on the raid array over regular storage units and very little is available. also i am looking at the sonos z130 package my question is also for any of you with experience is ? the z100? is it a good receptor / amp? i will be auditioning this soon, and want some pre knowledge of its attributes prior to talking with the salesman. thanks

  5. krell and b&k are made for khorns, krell edgy? funny! krell makes some of the best gear out there, as far as sound and power are concerned a full krell line up would be perfect, but i mix krell and b&k, both are very dynamic. i have had listeners sit in my living room and i could see tears welling up as they listened to their favorite artists, never heard or listened to theta.
  6. heresies would be a great side channel. front channel. heresies can do it all. plus you would have a seamless sounstage, same voice
  7. i did not eve have to look at the setup, i just read the speaker selection. if you want your ht to sound like a therter, than you have to get rid of the klf's, your sound stage will suffer from different voice from front to back, the deftec sub is a fair starting point, but after a while, if not placed right, it wont blend well with your klipsch, def tec does make fair subs, but after reviewing and auditioning, ????well???? in any event, voice! soundstage! that is what ht/2 channel is all about
  8. you might also consider velodyne, the newer spl series can be gotten cheap on line, i have the spl1200r, and at around 33% (sub amp adj) and after i spl'ed it, in louder-deeper sequences it feels like it wants to lift the couch off the floor, my neighbor view it after i set it up and it made him nervous, he had never experienced that from sound before, dont know the price on the other speakers, but i have found that after you research, and audition, you will find that cheapest or best bargain will always leave you wishing you did what was right in the first place. dont even take my opinion, audition!!!!!, and do not so much worry about price, eventually you will spend more later if you are not happy today
  9. i have heard this issue discussed very much on this forum, and after much research, and many stats-graphs-opinions, i decided to experiment, i did so because i am in your position, couch against the rear wall, it gets worse! i have no direct side method! so i bought 2 pedestals and placed them approximately 1 1/2 " in front of listening posiition, equally at my sides, the recommended speaker element to have at ear level is the tweeter, si my tweets are at ear level, after a few spl adjustments walla!!! my ht sounds as good as can be. once you balance, and make adjustments, your ht placement will work just as well as if you are adhering to all the recommended triangles, and distances, the big factor is room size. too small a room will choke the sound, not allow the speak to breath. 1 very important thing in this equasion, is spacing off walls, and toeing. hell my lascalla sits 3 feet off center from the hdtv, but since balanced spl'ed and toed once in play you cant tell the sound is not coming from the screen take time!!! dont spend money! experiment, isnt that what this lunacy is all about anyway. see ya
  10. not crazy at all, after i sold my klipshorn based ht/ 2 channel system i needed deep bass, so i have had both klipsch reference and synergy subsm both were anemic, good but anemic. so as i bought my new system i auditioned a few different manufacturers, klipsch-def tec supercubes-b&w just to name a few, all were adequate, but i finally ended up with a velodyne SPL 1200R 1000 WATTS it is currently set at around 36% and did the whole spl thing it is amazing headroom delux, there is so much hidden in sound tracks that normal subs don't show, sometimes in scenes that you do not suspect, just to add flavor to a scene. i watched "black hawk down" the other day after not watching it for 6-7 years, the last time was with a lesser sub, wont say model to irritate fellow klipshers ( still have my sons entire klipsch system in house) but instead of booming its way through the movie, the sub just made the movie real, never booming-muddy-exaggerated. it was so different, and absolutely lifelike, the headroom makes equal sense in subs as with the down stream electronics. to truly test your subs the best movie i have found so far is war of the worlds, with some subs i encountered the first attacks are a bit undynamic, but when your sub is dialed in, the entire scene has really cool lfe, the lfe in the aliens lazer blasts are over whelming. any way, NO 1000 watts is not enough or too much, judging by my experiences is is a good beginning, you wont use it all, but it is about headroom, and the inherient ability of the sub. to know! just to know i can push another 2/3rds if needed is ...................wow, as it is the lazer blasts feel like they might pick my couch up, and they are neither loud or harsh, but my neighbor feels them too. nice to be back,
  11. i love the pik.... my son too, i bought his setup before he even knew what it was , did not appreciate it,now he is 16 and his friends are blown away by his ststem, better than any of his friends parents have, his and my system are listed below
  12. no you are fine do as someone suggested and do the spl thing, remember that the lions share of ht comes from the center channel (70-80%), so do not worry about the so called peripheries, it depends alot on room size, and personal choice, just keep withing the same series, what you have will do good for now, finally someone with the good sense to buy an adequate center channel. you will hear all dialog clearly and you will be surprised how much is missed by small center channels, good job
  13. i know the speaks you speak of, but lets face it, anything infinity does not come close to klipsch, unless we are comparing the synergy line, havent seen or heard them in a while, they used to sell them at sound track, and the "sub wooffers were not really subs woofers, just bass speaks, but they promoted tem as built in subs, even my sons ksw 12 hit deeper and cleaner than the "sub's" on those infinities, to me they are a waste of money, but they look cool
  14. astehtics should be eliminated from the audio dictionary, sound propagates from larger enclosures for example, bose ha ha ha. the bigger the better, your room can accomodate large speakers, much larger than what you speak of, and you will find that even at low volumes they will sound many times better than your suggested setup, hell, my klipshorns even at 40 db sound so sweet, as did my cornwalls or even my heresies, but when i owned rc 3's i had to give them higher spl's to make them even sound decent, astetics? whats that
  15. indy is right, but in laymans terms , yes, there is enough material coming from your side and rears to justify the larger size, there are many of us here that think that using anythig short of full range floor standers is robbing your theatre experience of the full potential of the surround experience, i have heard alot of explosions pan across the back as well as the front, but you will never hear it with the tiny rs's or smaller
  16. bright??? not even close, i do not have thier amps, but i do use thier cd plater, and in combination with my other gear it is the most dynamic, and delicate, presentation i have ever heard, not an ounce of bright, everything is so sweet
  17. sounds like you need a simple spl meter
  18. forget the price, get a denon anything over a yamaha anything, if you are like the rest of us you will notice the differences in listening soon after purchase, and that will just mean upgrade, but the chances of your wanting to upgrade are less likely with the denon, the yammie has a tendancy to be ear bleeders and have unbalenced presenttion, overaccentuationg the tweets and bass and leaving gaps in the mids, very irritating
  19. yeah go nad rotel is not what they used to be, but having had both in house the nad just seems more musical and is a flawless performer, whereas the rotel seemed to have new interesting problems every day
  20. i have heard the rf and rb in the same room, with the same music, and i prefere the rf sound, fuller, deeper
  21. in general, you get what you pay for. mcgoo is right, but waht he did not mention is the part about better build, transports, power supplies, overall electronics......... as i said you get what you pay for
  22. if you could manage the khorns and cornies as surrounds than you would be in audio nirvana, keep the cornwalls
  23. this alomost sounds like a joke question, krell and everything sound fantastic, krell was what convinced me to stop spending so much money on my tt rig, once i tied my krell cd player into my 2 channel rig everything just opened up, i used to do sacd, dvd-a, and cd on my denon 2900, and the krell just made the denon sound flat, krell trult is a great piece of equipment, no matter what oiece you are tsalking about, ask the ear, he will tell you
  24. i think mallet hit on it, the vpi is great, but it makes little difference if you do not have a good cartridge, and turntable in general, the tt itself, and cartridge is huge in tt performance, the tt amp is also something that needs to be looked at, tt rigs are finicky, if you want great sound, they are one of the best ways to go, but you have to be willing to do do the upkeep and tweaking
