SW 12 II Help

Hello Everyone. I have a SW II Sub I bought from Good Guys a few years back. I've had it in to there repair shop three times now in the last year. As long as it is turned way down it is OK, but during action seenes the sub often POPs. Scares the &$%@ out of me when it does. It also rattels or vibrates (like something loose) at a certain tone level. Of coarse Good Guys sends it back and said nothing is wrong. One time they said they did replace the driver. Any Idea on what I can do? Thanks very much.

Hi Mike. I own that sub too and have had no problems (so far). Once though, while setting it up, I cranked the level up pretty high and it did make a horrible popping noise...kind of like the speaker was bottoming out. I have it set at 50Hz, and the level at 6. Sounds great here! I do remember having to wait for quite a while after I ordered this sub for it to ship. The salesman told me that Klipsch was ironing out some kind of problem where the "spider assembly" on the active woofer was somehow coming unglued or coming apart. Mike, it sounds to me like you either have the sub set at a level it can't handle....or the woofer is toast. What settings are you using/ is it in a corner/ how is it connected to your system?

Thanks Mikekid

I have the low pass set at about 60, and level at 7. The two movies it sounds the worst in is the Terminator during the first battle sceene, and the Haunting, during most of the movie. Thats without really cranking it very loud. I'm useing a good monster sub cable to the amp. Anyway, thanks for the reply.

mike t, do u also have the sub level turned up on your receiver settings? if not maybe u could turn that up & turn the sub's output down. just an idea as 7 on the sub seems pretty high.

just f.e., i get that bottoming out on my vel hgs-18 w/ like the Private Ryan beach scene if i just turn it up to 5 or higher. so i put it's output dial only at about 9:30(3-4) but have the sub level on the receiver up an extra db.

like mk said, make sure u have it placed best as possible so u don't have to overwork it for that bass fix.

Thanks to everyone who replyed. I'll try those different settings. Right now I think I have it just the other way around, the Sub output level is high, (7), and on the Amp, the LFE is -3, and sub is 0. It's worth a try. Then I'll call Tech Support if that doesn't sound any better. Love that BASS..

Thanks again,

Mike T
