Speaker level inputs on ksw12?

Hi,

I am playing around with the speaker level I/O on my ksw12 and wanted to know how this type of connection works.

- Is this a passive type of connection?

- How is the low frequency pulled out and passed to the sub amp?

- Any changes to the single passed on to the main speakers?

Thanks for any help on this subject.

Regards,

ck

In using speaker line inputs you are basically running your

main speaker output through your sub. Based upon the cross-over

set on the sub it will pass on the frequency above the setting

you select. Your sub's amp will take the balance frequncy and

amplify. If the sub is not turned on then all bandwidth will be

passed on to your mains. If you connect your sub through the LFE

output on your reciever then the receivers internal cross-over

will direct the low frequency to your sub. The subs internal

cross-over is by-passed.

Klipsch web site should have most of that info. In terms of cross-over

the range on most subwoofers are 35-100 hz. Typically you set that to

the lower range of your main speakers. For example, if your main

speakers have a range of 45hz to 20,000 set your sub's cross-over at

45 so that anything below 45 you sub will handle and anything above your

main speakers will handle. If you have small bookshelf speakers you

probable want to set it at around 80. It reallly boils down to your

preference. The higher your set the sub cross-over the more bass will

be produced from it.

Have been listening to my 300B monoblocks, ksw12 & heresy's using high level I/O. Really like the improved base. However, am wanting to experiment with running the sub in parallel with the mains and wanted to know if doing so would affect the impedance seen by the amps?

Just an update.. After listening to my system with the sub connected using the speaker level I/O (amp-sub-mains). Things just didn't sound "right" (if you will). The bass was much better, but the highs seemed edgy, mids not as sweet, presentation seemed less focused. As an experiment, I reconnected the sub in parallel with my mains. Ok, now the mids and highs are back with the added benefit of bass, soundstage and presentation are better than ever.
