BobTheSlob
Can anyone tell me why I get static when I turn the volume knob? I have the v.2-400 Pro Media 4.1 speakers (original, not second version with more base). The static all of a sudden started happening, and it's worrying me. I can't afford to lose these babies. Mighty Favog
Don't worry about it too much. Just sounds like the volume control is getting dirty. ------------------ Tom KLF-20 Mahogany McIntosh C33 (Carver C-1 for sale?) BobTheSlob
How do I clean the volume knob?
Mighty Favog
I've never opened up one of those but I'm sure there's a way to do it. It's the back of the control knob that you want to access. There's probably a few phillips head screws on teh back of the pre-amp speaker. Once you can see it you can just spray a couple of short spray shots of TV Tuner Cleaner (Radio Shack for around $5) on the back of the knob. The goal is to let the fluid contact the contact points within the control. Be sure not to douse it! Too much could allow the fluid to ground out two points that aren't ment to touch each other. After the spraying is done just work the knob travel least to most about five to ten times. You may be able to turn it on after it's hooked back up (although I don't advise it unless your sure things are not crossed up) and try it before you put it back together; just saves time.
