home theater help

Hi, I'm going to set up a home theater, and definately need some help. I've done some research online, and have also visited a few A/V retailers. I'm looking at two receivers, a Yamaha 2400 and a Pioneer Elite 55txi. I'm leaning more towards the Yamaha. I'm probably going to go with Klipsch speakers. What series would give my really good surround sound, and also compliment my CD's? Is there a problem with buying the receiver online, and forgoing the manufacturers warranty? rather than pay full retail from a dealer? Would appreciate all suggestions.. thanks, John

Welcome to the Klipsch forum!!!

Both receivers have a following on this forum with perhaps a slightly greater number favoring the Pioneer Elites. The i.link is a particularly nice feature for high resolution music.

For home theater, the Reference series is the way to go. In your position I might go for 5 or 7 RB-75s plus a good subwoofer. There are lots of choices that depend on budget, room size and listening tastes. Some folks like to buy used Klipsch Heritage speakers for their sound with music.

The debate of forgoing the manufacturer's warranty for a cheaper cost will continue forever. Some folks say go for the cheaper price and if a problem occurs, deal with the site you bought it from. I'm in the camp that says you get what you pay for and I like the idea of having a warranty in case something terrible happens.

I am lucky that I bought my H/K 525Z from a reputable, authorized online dealer. The thing crapped out on me in October/November. Although it took nearly 2 months, H/K made up for it by upgrading me to a brand new 630. If I had bought the 525 from an unauthorized dealer, it might not have ever been fixed by the 'experienced' technician.

I purchased a vsx36tx receiver almost 2 years ago and it laid down on me 2 weeks ago. I am now happy that I bought it from an authorized dealer. I also got a great price $630.00 The amp's MSRP was in the $1400.00 range. I guess what I am trying to tell you is shop around some more. You can probably find the kind of deal you are looking for with some more work.2.gif
