RIGGED25
I own a M&K Mark 75 II subwoofer which makes an aweful thumping noise when powered on or off. I've read the manual and it recommends that I leave it plugged in 24hrs a day. The thing is, I only use my sub for movies, which only happens once or twice a month. Should I leave it plugged in or will this thumping cause permanent damage. Thanks, RIGGED
T_Shomaker
Is that noise more like a thump, pop, or crack
RIGGED25
It's a very deep thump which I find very annoying. It really befuddles me as to why there is no power button.
Professor.Ham.Slap
Chances are that is just the capacitors in the amps discharging. Subwoofer amps generally have large capacitors so when they let go, a lot of current goes flying out of them right to the driver. It isn't something I'd be worried about though. T_Shomaker
My parents cheap computer speakers do that when you turn them on. The system still works though and it is like 4 or 5 years old. My guitar amp makes a pop noise when you turn it on and that thing still works. So like what HamSlap said there shouldn't be a problem. formica
A lot of electronic equipment have a relay to produce a soft turn on... where it fires up the electronics before the amplifier, so that the initial "thump" isn't heard. Your sub has this too, but it is probably connected only to the "auto-on" power relay, since this is the way they intended to be used. The thump is actually by design... if you wish. Have you tried alternating what you power up first? (ie: sub before/after everything else?) I can understand the frustration... Rob
RIGGED25
For some odd reason M&K didn't feel the need to put a power on switch on the sub. They recommend that the sub be plugged in at all times. I guess I could just unhook the RCA cable from the sub output on my receiver.
