Jimmytwo
I'm sure this will be an easy one for you out there. I'm stumped though. I have a toshiba sd-5300y connected to a 3803 with an s-jack connection and the standard rca plugs for audio. I can't get the DTS Surround mode happening! An example is the Eagles Hell Freezes Over dvd (a dts disc). At the beginning of the disc is gives a prompt for either DTS or PCM. If DTS is selected I get no audio!! I select PCM, it's ok. It also seems plays fine with using the DTS NEO:6 (music)in Auto mode. Could there be something wrong in my initial setup? Do I need to up grade to optical + coax connections? I'm confused and surroundless Thanks in advance Jimmy
GRCRYSTYK
Jimmy,.. You hit it right on the head,...An optical or coax cable is needed for digital sources. Enjoy, nothing like multichannel music or movies. Also,..I forgot you mentione you were sorroundless at the time. Do some research if you plan to add surrounds, you will won't believe the difference it makes. GRCRY,...>>>--->
gcoker
GRC is correct, inorder to decode DTS or Dolby Digital the receiver (any receiver) needs the signal by a digital connection. Either Optical or digital coax. I could not tell by your description on the audio connection if you are using the digital out from your DVD player. All DVD player have Optical output. It's the funny shape connector. If you connect it using the left and right output like on a CD player then buy a optical (or digital coax) and connect the DVD player to the digital input on your receiver. This should do it. Make sure on your DVD players menu you set DTS to ON. Good Luck
bchild311
Jimmy, you'll also want to make sure that you specify in your amp settings what connector port is what. For example if you go with the optical cable you will need to go in the amp setup and specify the optical for DVD, VCR1, or whatever port you decide to go with. Clear as mud? Good. You probably knew this already anyway.
Jimmytwo
Thanks to those who replied. As suggested, I connected optical cable as well as the s-jack connection. Then rejigged the setup in the dvd - changed setup in amp - crossed my fingers - and.... it worked. 'til next time then. J
