dantfmly
For anybody that might know. I would like to mod my sub but puting spikes where the plastic feet are now. Would the improvement be worth doing that. And will the fact that it is downifiring into carpet have any effect on what the advantages of spiking it might be. It is a mtx sub15. the specs are on this web page. http://www.mtx.com/homeaudio/archive/indexsub.cfm
formica
Usually spikes help on carpeted floor by preventing the sub from sliding around ... therefore conserving the energy which would otherwise be lost. Although I haven't blind A/B them, they do in theory provide an improvement... and should provide a cleaner bass. Given you have a downward firing sub, the net effect will probably be less than if the sub were front firing... but still worth a try.
