fini
Dave, Do you use the polyester batting, or cotton? Anything over it (like fabric)? My wife is an avid quilter. Maybe I'll seal her in the Cornwalls for an afternoon and see what she comes up with...
kktvbob
I think it would be cotton? Polyfill is clear to audio I think? I was just at the speaker shop in town and he said to just use pink corning fiberglass and to stuff it. He said the insulation slows down the bass and makes it think it's in a bigger cabinet. Has anyone used fiberglass and what do you think? Or would it pump fiberglass out the port. The quilt pads looks like that maybe the way to go but I'm looking for the best sound. Thanks for the input.
DRBILL
WHAT? PADDING IN CORNWALS? Where this this get started? There are four in my local extended family (three in one household and a center for LA SCALAS in another household, a son and a daughter. How much padding? I could send it to you in a 37¢ envelope. What would it do? What would you expect it to achieve? I'm as serious as cancer. What is the science behind this? What are the numbers? JBryan
Dr Bill, I've had 3 prs. ('67, '72, '78) and they all had padding - and lots of it. Kinda looks like upholstery padding - probably is. When did Klipsch stop padding their CWs? -Bryan
kktvbob
My 72 and 84 Cornwalls both have padding. On the 72s I think it was in a shed and some of the padding is bad. So I'm going to replace it. But thats part of the rebuild, you fix whats wrong, The speakers are starting to look good. Sould have some pictures soon. michael hurd
I believe that the role of the " padding " is to reduce or eliminate any higher frequencies from being audible from the port.
mopar dave
i believe what i used was cotton. seemed to have a cleaner sound after adding it. 4$ a roll, plenty to do a pair of cornwall. i covered the sides, top, back and alittle on the motorboard. keep it out and away from port area and just staple it on.
