Conspiracy

I recently watched one of the most unbelievable movies ever made. Kenneth Branagh and Stanley Tucci star in HBOs Conspiracy, a stage-play recreation of the high-level Nazi meeting to exterminate millions of European Jews.

On a snowy winter's day at an ornate mansion in Wannsee (VON-say), on the outskirts of Berlin, SS major Adolf Eichmann (Stanley Tucci) oversees a sumptuous buffet and bar for a group of 14 top level Nazis. Over the next 90 minutes these men determine the fate of millions of Jews throughout Europe, and when the meeting ends, the Final Solution will have just begun.

The movie is based on one the most shocking and incredible documents of western industrialized civilization, the summary of The Wannsee Conference for The Final Solution for the Jews. This 15-page document should be read and studied in political science, history and geography classes around the world. The movie makes it clear the meaning of evacuation was something permanent for Jews who were NOT suitable for labor camps.

The meeting has become known as the »Wannsee Conference«. In 1947 the minutes of the Conference recorded by Adolf Eichmann were found in the files of the German Foreign Office.

I saw this movie, too, Colin--when it first came out. Very disturbing and compelling. A must see for anyone to completely understand the far-reaching implications of a lunatic in power.

Were that it was merely a lunatic in power. My fascination with the Nazis is NOT so much the staggering atrocities committed in the name of hatred and science, including one of the worst examples of genocide in modern times, but also with the harassment, persecution and extermination of a segment of its own population by a western industrialized democracy. It wasnt just the lunatic that caused the Holocaust, it was an entire nation that participated. It wasnt just a few good men who stood aside and did nothing in the face of evil; it was a country that turned quickly away from liberal democracy to conservative fascism.

Very true, but it certainly took a lunatic at the helm to facilitate what happened and put those plans in action. Preparing an "army" of similar-thinkers and/or weak minded individuals around you to take over a country is not an easy task, especially when your ideas are based on hatred. Scary stuff.

The movie Max with John Cusack is another notable flick who's plot center's around adolf hitler before his career in politics took off.

A very very pretentious movie albeit, but ultimately intoxicating when we see how closely adolf's future could have been in Art instead of Politics.
