A Suggestion to Klipsch

Seems quite a few are concerned about how to connect their Promedia's to their soundcards, especially the Pro 5.1 to TBSC or GTXP or SBLive 5.1.

There's also quite a few queries about how to use WinDVD or PowerDVD with their 5.1 soundcards and Pro 5.1, as well as what the Tornado provides.

How about setting up an FAQ page that answers these queries, complete with a simple diagram that shows how they are connected?

Seems people expect a simple digital output to the speakers to be the most ideal for 5.1 DVD, but really, TBSC + Pro 5.1 will beat SBLIve 5.1 + DTTS3500 in sound quality. But people hear one is digital connection, and the other is anlogue, and they instantly think the digital is better sounding....

Send me a list of Soundcards you're all interested in, and I'll do the research.... Smile.gif

That's a really good idea!

Actually, all other things being equal, a 'digital' system will sound better than analog, for example were the Promedia 5.1 to have an external decoder, they would probably sound better than if they were connected to a soundcard via analog. The reason is that the digital to analog converters in external decoders are usually of better quality, and are isolated from the electrically 'noisy' environment of a PC. The problem, however, is that some digital systems compromise the quality of other components to keep the price down. So for example the DTT3500 will have a cleaner D/A conversion because of its external decoder, but the PM 5.1 will still sound better because the amp and speakers are of better quality. Simply put the overall quality of the system makes a bigger difference than the external decoder.

Caring is the first step toward disappointment.

Windstorm: Thanks... that makes sense. Keeping mind that, in terms of sound quality, 'the overall quality of the system is of greater importance than the external decoder', would you say that the analog Promedia 5.1's are superior to any digital system in the same price range?

Trust me, digital and analogue connections doesnt make much diff. I think the major advantage for having a digital connection is that there is only one cable to take care of, but since the AT is outside of the box, there are more connections to be made anyway.
