  1. Roy: I picked up the Roy Orbison dvd based on your, um... 'ecstatic review'. Great choice!! I'm not real big on the black & white technique, but the music is outstanding... what a fine group of artists! Can't wait to hear this one on my 5.1's that are in the mail now! Thanks Roy!
  2. After reading all of the posts in these forums, I went with the Hercules GTXP also. (Picked it up at Best Buy for $129). Does anyone know if the Hercules works like the Philips and 'splits stereo signals into 5.1 sound'? Thanks!
  3. Well, from the quality perspective I would advise you to avoid the Dell. If Dell desktops are made anything like their laptops, they are put together with cheap materials and constructed very poorly. My Dell laptop has been one problem after another. I miss my ThinkPad! 4. Amy has offered to research and post an FAQ on sound cards... if you have question about a specific card, let her know under the 'A Suggestion to Klipsch' posting in this forum.
  5. Windstorm: Thanks... that makes sense. Keeping mind that, in terms of sound quality, 'the overall quality of the system is of greater importance than the external decoder', would you say that the analog Promedia 5.1's are superior to any digital system in the same price range?
  6. Yes... a little FAQ on specific sound cards would be helpful and appreciated. Is there a technical reason that analog would sound better than digital? Thanks!
  7. BobG: Does that mean there are no internet sources that are approved dealers? Unless I'm missing something, I can see no way of looking for an internet based dealer on the Dealer Locator. Thanks!
  8. OK... so now I'm totally confused. I guess I'll just have to buy all of the cards and keep the one that sounds best. haha. Could you please explain what the advantage of 'hardware MP3 encoding/decoding' is? Thanks!
  9. OK... so, if I buy the 5.1 system, you guys recommend the Game Theatre XP over the SB cards. Great. Here's my question; I'm mostly going to be using it for music. Not a lot of gaming or dvd's. Will the 5.1's sound any better for playing music than the 4.1's? I don't mind paying the extra $$'s if there is a difference in the sound quality, even if it's slight. Oh, and if the 4.1's are the way to go, what sound card would you recommend? Thanks!
  10. Mike, I'm probably going to buy the 5.1s... could you explain why they say it's 'pointless to get the 5.1 system when you can get 4.1 system'? How do you 'preorder'? Thanks!
