doctorcilantro
Can I use the 4ohm tap with my RF-35's? Someone asked my if I was using the 4 or the 8 ohm tap and I thought I should only be using the 8..... DC
chops
You can try them on the 4 ohm taps. It shouldn't hurt anything. That's how I ran the Cornwalls on my McIntosh amp.
leok
The gain, and max power will be lower, but output impedance will be lower, and output tubes will be operating in a region of lower distortion, which, in my opinion is more important than max power. As long as you still can get max volume you want I would expect the 4 Ohm output to sound better .. less speaker/amp interaction, better bass control, cleaner highs. WMcD
As pointed out, there is less gain. True. But there should also be proportionate reduction of noise, hum, etc., as long as it is caused by the power amp. Gil
Colin
the 4-ohm tap on Stream's Cayin TA30 tube amp sounded slightly better to me on his RF7s at the ARK meeting, the bass, not noticably different otherwise, that "nominal" value is a rip-off! Go for it.
