I'm just wondering if Klipsch has some sort of prepaid cross-shipping setup or if the customer is stuck with paying for shipping when returning a set of 400s under warranty?

If you purchased the system within 30 days of requiring warranty service, Klipsch will cover the shipping. After that, the customer is responsible for shipping the item to us, and Klipsch will cover the return shipping back to the customer.
