callmeishmael
Hi Everyone, How is the best way to protect the finish on my speakers? I have the black ones and I forget what type of wood they are. I was thinking a paste wax would do. Thanks in advance
michael hurd
Definately do not wax the black vinyl, all you need is a damp, wrung out, soft cloth to wipe them down. I use swiffer cloths for the dust on the cones, and the cabinet as well. They attract dust like a magnet, and do not scratch.
picky
I totally agree with Mike: Any type of oil-based product such as paste wax (normally contains petroleum-based distillants), for example, will potentially harm the vinyl covering on your speakers. Oil "attacks" plastic (including vinyl) because plastic is made from oil and therefore, oil acts as a solvent and breaks most plastics down. There are plastics that are exceptions of course and are MADE to be immersed in oil. But, vinyl is not one of them. I would also recommend against using any of the automotive, spray-on, gloss enhancing products as they tend to attack plastic, too even though some tout themselves as having a "preserving" effect. Research has shown just the opposite it true in most cases. I am refraining from mentioning particular brand names on purpose because I do not feel like getting sued.
