ric
which is better, optical audio or multi channel audio? for movies in DTS?
nicholtl
Well "multi-channel" is technically what optical (toslink) or coaxial digital connections provide - a 5.1 or more signal. But I'm assuming by multi-channel, you mean using independant RCA's for each channel? That's usually only done for SACD or DVD-A playback. And it's also considered analog. But I think DD or DTS would still pass through. Anyhow, to make a long story short, for movies, I'd suggest either an optical or coaxial connection. ironwoods
Hi, I'd use the component that contains the best DAC, given a choice. Whether it be the DVD's or the reciever's. Most newer players won't even have one. Maybe I'm behind times
marksdad
multi is for sacd, and dvd-a only, all others formants are handled through either the coax or optical cable, or of course the ever dependable rca's

Maybe I'm behind times ---------------- i agree with you ironwoods:if the DVD player has a better DAC you should use some independant rca and the 5.1 input of the amp, if the amp has the better DAC you should use a coax or an optical link between the 2 devices.
