HTPC w/ Radeon 9100 DVI Issue on GWII

Alright guys,

Sorry to post this here, as I know that it is really a PC general question, but I am in need of some assistance.

I put together my HTPC on Friday and when I connect it to the Sony GWII I get a horrible picture. I have done this before with the 9500 and had little to no issues, but never with the 9100. I have set the powerstrip settings to what they should be, which adjusted the screen size, but did nothing for the picture.

Here's the link I posted on avsforum, take a look and let me know what my next steps should be...

Please help...funds are running low, and women is getting mad...

TIA,

Well, I might be able to throw a lil monkey wrench into your thoughts... have you run the latest update drivers for the Radeon card? If not, try that first... if so, that may be your first problem. Although I love radeon vid cards for pc's, I've found several problems associated with them, concerning compatability with OS; dual programs trying to do the same thing; and issues with dual processors.

I'm sorry I can't really give you ways to fix the problem, I might be able to point you in the direction I had to take when I switched OS's. First problem off the bat was winxp recognizing the card, and updating the drivers accordingly, however, 3 files were "not found" thus I had to access the disc, and find each file individually, and upload them to the c: drive, before uninstalling and re-instaling the drivers. 2nd issue was the setup disc loading a different version of the drivers onto the mainframe, confusing the processor while trying to boot up. ten restores later, I discovered by calling the company directly, the best thing to do was to wipe the OS version of the driver off the hard drive, and re-install the card, both physically, and programming wise in order to get it to boot up properly.

I don't have dual processors, so haven't had to deal with that can of worms, but have heard of the issues, and resolutions concerning the installation issues.

You might also check the monitor list supported. IT is possible your card, though brand new out of the box, may not support the monitor/tv model, which is an easy fix on their website.

Hope that helps... which it probably doesn't, but what the heck... was worth a shot to answer.

Got it....

Needed a new DVI Card. The one I purchased from Asus for an Asus Motherboard was not compatable with the Asus P4R800-V Deluxe model that I had...go figure! I ended up going with with the Radeon 9500 instead of the Asus DVI card and the 9100 onboard and it works great!

Just thought I would post as a resolution for future references....

One more reason to never, ever buy a motherboard with integrated video for an HTPC. It's money and time wasted, because you'll end up needing to go to an AGP video card in the end anyhow...
