Depends on the specs for the subs...

generally "DJ" or "PA" subs are built with high SPL's in mind, but not necesarily deep lows. Most PA subs drop off in the 30 or 40Hz region, which is only getting you an octave of extension below 80Hz (which just about any normal HT main speaker should be able to handle). However, I can think of a few PA subs that have amazing output down to the 20Hz region, but they're also fricken expensive.

In all honesty, I think you'll find more bang for your buck going with an "HT" subwoofer. A DIY sub will give you even more bang for your buck. I suggest you swing by the powered subwoofer forum as there's more info over there.

BTW, how much are you looking to spend? Don't forget that you'll need to purchase a power amplifier too if you go with "DJ" subs.
