power question for Klipsch ProMedia 2.1

Received as gift a Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speaker set for my PC. Do I need to switch it off after each use?

The speaker is rated at 120 volts, consuming 250 watts. If this is true when there is no sound, each month the speaker would consume about 180 kilowatt-hours of energy, or about $15, if left on continuously. The on-off switch is inconveniently located at the rear of the subwoofer which is under the table against the wall.

I don't switch off my computer since it automatically powers down. Does the speaker consume full power when there is no sound?

roofrabbit,

Im not a speaker/klipsch etc expert

but I believe that most if not all electronic/electrical

devices consume electricity based on their use

in other words it "should" depend on the output being sent to the speakers

Im sure it has (as does every device) a minimum amount of electricity

it requires to be turned on

but the amount on your electric bill is probably going to be less then

what youre estimating based on the "maximum" consumption of the device

hope that helps.

either way, its still gonna cost you "something" to keep it on all the time

now I gotta go through my house and figure out what stuff I have on

"all the time" that I can turn off and how much its costing me

Thanks Alot! hehe :P
