TheEAR Posted September 14, 2001 Share Posted September 14, 2001 The down firing sub will give more impact,some prefer impact to definition.I prefer the front firing subs(Aerial Acoustics SW12,Revel B15,Carver SN,and the upcomong RSW series subs). This does not mean down firing subs dont gave good definition. Well designed band-pass may sound good,most however do not and sound boomy and one notey. The sealed subs hve more defined and tighter bass. Ported(bass reflex)need a very stiff cone suspension or/and fast amp with very high dmping factor to sound good.
