pauln
How come the LaScala crosses at 400Hz? The Klipschorna and Belle are both at 450Hz. Paul
Al Klappenberger
Paul, The 400 Hz specification is nominal. The actual acoustic crossover is wherever the two horns happen to has the same output. The crossover itself depends mainly on the horns. The Khorn really crosses closer to 400 and the LaScala probably crosses higher considering it's woofer will go higher. The Belle Klipsch has a smaller squawker horn, so it will be higher yet. Al K.
pauln
Thanks, Al. I'm surprised by the single reponse - quite a compliment from the forum that your thoughts are definitive.
colterphoto1
Same topic, diff speaker. Does Al or anyone know why, if the Cornwall horn was designed for 600 Hz, does the early B network crossover at 1000Hz, almost 1/2 octave higher? Do any of the mod or updated designs attempt to change the crossover points as well as the slopes? Seems to me like we should always try to keep the xover points higher or lower than 1000Hz, so as to keep them out of the vocal range. D-MAN
PWK tended to share components that were in stock, mainly the woofers and such, even when it may not have been the "best" application for it (like the Cornwall). More of an economical decision than an technical one, IMO. Seeing that the product was fairly successful, it seems to bear it out as being the "right" decision, after all.
