RIGGED25
Should a receiver "heat" up if one is using an external amp to power the main channels? I understand a certain amount of warmth is expected but I think something may be wrong. I recently hooked up a Dolby Digital processor via a 25pin connector to my receiver yet the processor doesn't have any jumpers inserted in the pre-outs.Could this be the cause? Thanks, RIGGED
MrMcGoo
I use external amps on my speakers with a receiver used as a processor. The receiver runs warm. The amp section in the receiver is biased with a substantial voltage which generates the heat. If it is well ventilated, there should not be any problem. archangele
Hi, It depends on the receiver and how it's power amplifiers are biased. Some solid state amps only get warm when there is a signal going through them. But most good hifi amps are biased such that they run warm with or without a signal being passed through them.
