orgbrat
I just purchased a set of Synergy III S2 surround sound speakers for the rear of my home theatre room. Knowing the room is 14 foot wide with a 9 foot ceiling. Also knowing I am going to mount the Synergy S2 surround speakers on the back end wall at the 8 foot height location. My question is : 1) How far away from the adjoining side wall should the speakers be placed? Example : Placing the speakers 2 foot away from the sidewalls would give me a 10 foot spacing between the speakers. Would that be the correct spacing for the two speakers to give an optimal sound? Is each speaker far enough away from the side wall? Steve Graddy
ygmn
Why not mount them on the side wall ? about even with listening position....or slightly behind it.... this is proper for movies...on the back wall is a last resort....
Smokem
Surruond speakers (SS-2's) are suppose to be on the side walls at ear level when seated and about 3-4 ft in front of the seating position.
Steve Phillips
Optimal for surrounds would be on the side walls left and right of the seating area. If you need to mount them on the rear wall, this is fine. My suggestion would be 3 1/2 feet from the side wall to the center of the speaker. Rule of thumb is at least 2 feet above seated ear height. Surround is meant to be an ambiance sound, not one that can be localized. 5 feet from the floor to the bottom of the speaker as a minimum height to no more than about 7 feet to the bottom. Now if you need to mount them higher, say 8 feet, this would probably be fine as long as you sit 6 feet or so off of the back wall. too high and surrounds tend to disappear so to speak
orgbrat
Thanks Stephen for the reply. You told me exactly what I wanted to know. Steve Graddy
orgbrat
Hi Stephen, Follow-up on speaker placement. You were exactly right about the Synergy S2 Surround speakers. They sound great on the back wall. I took your advice and did not use the Omnimount speaker mounts also. The built-in speaker mount is all that is needed. Gonna send those back for the return of my money. Watching a movie played by my Sony RDR-GX7 DVD player/recorder using a Yamaha HTR-5750 A/V receiver and the Klipsch speakers(F2's, S2's with center channel and subwoofer) on a Samsung 61" DLP television is absolutely amazing. As you can see I am very happy with the sound results. Thanks for the great support over the phone and I love my Klipsch's. A very happy customer... kenratboy
Glad you are liking them (see my sig), I love mine. These speakers are honestly worthy of a $1,000+ receiver.
