rivieraranch
Do you have to use the same kind of wire for the woofer AND tweeter? I have Monster Cable 12 gauge that I am wiring the speakers now using the straps. Could I use 14 guage Monster cable on the tweeter connection. a Also, how do you get those @#% straps off? scriven
Hi Jim, Welcome to the forum! To directly answer your question, no they do not need to be the same. I am from the school that "magic" speaker cables are a waste of money and that they just have to be heavy enough (small enough gauge number) to handle the current. 14 gauge is plenty to run the whole speaker and would be fine for the tweets. I don't know about the straps.
kohill
Just loosen both reds and the strap for red comes off. Same for the black.
scriven
BTW, I am also from the school that bi-wiring is a waste of time and wire, but it's your time and your wire!
rivieraranch
It may prove to be a waste of time but I have never tried it.

nicholtl
Bi-amping is one thing, but bi-wiring will probably produce a negligible difference. I've even read reviews in the past that said the difference worked against them. Most speaker manufacturers put double binding posts on their speakers because they're catering to what the mass-market wants. However, if you look at the highest of high-end speakers, they usually only feature a single pair of binding posts. So, go figure...
